When we sit down to watch a movie, we are always going to have some kind of expectation. Whether it’s how the plot is going to pan out, or just the general feel of the film, we are always going to have something in mind that we are expecting to get from the film.

Take Us on a Journey
Following on from ambition, we want a film that will take us somewhere that we have never been before.
This can be a whole new place, being introduced to a new person or idea, or even a new technique. It just needs to be something that we haven’t been exposed to before and feel refreshing and original.
Make Us Feel Something
A good film makes people sit back and reflect on the emotions that they are feeling. You want to be able to make your audience pinpoint their emotions without manipulating them into thinking one way or another.
It does grow increasingly more difficult to accurately portray more complex emotions but conveying more simple emotional states such as sadness of fear is quite easy to achieve.
Make it Fun and Surprising
Again, we’ve seen so many films before, it will become increasingly more difficult to be surprised and excited about a film if it contains the exact same concepts as a film that has already been seen.
We want a film that has us on the edge of our seats wondering what will happen next… and be surprised when it’s not remotely what we are expecting!
Originality is the key to a great film watching experience and sometimes it’s the most anticipated films that don’t realise this, which leaves us disappointed and let down.
